It is with great sadness that I let you know I’m very done with A Spork in the Road. That site carried me through some really tough times, and I will always be grateful it existed. As you can see, I retained the spork for my logo here. You may have also noticed softer colors, and a theme that’s more in tune with who I am entirely, not just one tiny piece of my life. I’ve learned a lot over the past 13 months, and the biggest lesson has been that not being myself does a great disservice to me.
In case you missed what’s happened since 13 months ago, here’s a brief rundown:
- Dropped/sold everything and moved to Ft. Lauderdale
Turns out, I didn’t go to the beach as much as I thought I would. I miss the beach, for sure, but I do not miss the heat and humidity. If I move to a beach region again, I’ll make sure it’s a smidge farther north. Subtropical temps and I do not get along.
- Stopped smoking
26 years. I still crave a cigarette, especially in particularly stressful times.
- Survived Hurricane Irma
Thanks to my roommate’s girlfriend, I had a cool, dry spot with a king bed and storm shutters.
- Survived a heart attack, and 4 months of atrial flutter and defibrillation (mostly by myself)
It’s really scary when your heart is over 200 beats per minute, and frankly it feels awful.
- Started a hit YouTube Channel with my buddy Ted Bauer at The Context of Things
- Partnered with Elizabeth Hamilton at Flying Circus Media Group
- Had a pacemaker implanted and an ablation to stop the atrial flutter
I think it worked. My pacemaker is set to correct the flutter, though, so I don’t know if I would actually know.
- Fell in love
MMMMM those gorgeous blue eyes, and handsome smile, tho.
- Moved home
DENVAH! I’m HEEEEEEEEEEREEEEEEE!
- Love wasn’t enough
The hardest part is coming to terms with the fact that I can’t fix everything, and that I’m not responsible for someone else’s struggle.
- Here we are
I’m sure these things will come up over and over in themes and essays.
Welcome to the new site! I hope you enjoy your stay.
